December is a time of celebration and giving. We have come to learn even when times are hard there is always something to celebrate and some way we can help another. The last couple of years have squeezed us all in every kind of way, individuals and businesses alike. We’ve had to rely on each other in ways we never have and at Unique Painting we are proud of the services we offer to our community.
Your support of our small, local business is not lost on us. We know there are plenty of businesses that have not survived these turbulent times, which is why we have made it a priority to pay it forward. We want to honor the work of an organization that is near and dear to us, one we are glad to partner with, Answering the Call.
We don’t often think about the privilege we have in our first responders. In our scariest moments there is a group of people waiting to serve and protect us. It’s easy to forget the comfort and freedom we live in knowing when we call for help, they are coming to save us.
Answering the Call exists for the men and women who wake up every day ready to run into tragedy. When a Kansas City area first responder is injured or receives a medical prognosis that prevents them from fulfilling their duties, Answering the Call is there to help.
There is something unique about a person who is willing to risk his or her own life for another. Morris Letcher of the KCK Fire department said, “I never really wanted to be a firefighter, I was actually called to be a firefighter… and after becoming a firefighter I realized this is a calling on your life.”
Letcher has proudly served the people of Kansas City, Kansas for twenty-six and half years. Tragedy struck him when blood clots in his legs put him in the hospital and a coma for eight months. He was not able to walk after being discharged. While he had the support of friends and colleagues, his life had drastically changed and Answering the Call was there to help.
“If Answering the Call had not been there I would not be able to do some of the things I can do now”, Letcher said. Answering the Call helped by building him a ramp for his home and making it handicap accessible.
Unlike most of us, an injury of any kind can prevent a first responder from working. It’s hard to stomach the thought of one of these heroes injuring themselves in the line of duty, knowing full well it could cost them their next pay check and yet they do it anyway.
Answering the Call uplifts our community’s protectors when they need it most. They refuse to allow their noble works to go unnoticed. They exist so the invisible work that goes into protecting and serving all of us can be seen and praised.
We’re proud to partner with Answering the Call in giving to those that give everything for us. If you’re ready to support your local community and first responders, you can visit their website, https://atc911.org/ to donate money or your time to these fearless leaders.
Our first responders are a vital party of our community. We hope you’ll join us in pulling together for the ones that hold us together.
From our Unique Painting family to yours, we wish you a safe and happy holiday!
